Decide on the content before you start

Corona virus pandemic. How to survive lockdown number 3. Don't read this boring blog, or this weird blog. Find some good content to steal: Star Wars stuff, Cooking tutorials,  how to make toast.

 

Choose a good platform

Don't use Blogger or WordPress.com (use the self hosted version at wordpress.org if you insist on using it). 
Static site generators such as these listed on Jamstack.org are good for blogs and can be hosted for free. Some good examples: Ghost, HUGO, Hexo, and Gatsby.
If you can code, Next.JS and Nuxt.JS are also very good. Most of these give you much more control over your content and your website as a whole, allowing you to (likely with more work) get significantly increased search rankings with improved SEO and meta options.
